I Find Beauty in Everything

From a very early age, I remember always thinking to myself, "that would be such a pretty picture." I would think that about anything and everything. As far as I'm concerned, the world is a beautiful place. Everything has potential, and everyone is photogenic.
I consider myself quite lucky for many reasons. I have a wonderful husband, Mike, who loves and supports me in all that I do. He is a very talented and hard-working man, providing me with the ability to stay home and care for our children, Archer (4) and Lily (2); and all the tools necessary to start my own photography business. My family has been an incredible source of inspiration for me... giving me the drive and determination to make a career by doing what I love: Photography. They are my all, and I wouldn't be doing any of this if it weren't for them. I believe by taking the opportunity to do what I love, it makes me a better wife and a better mother, so in turn, everything I do for me, I'm doing for them. I am also very lucky to have such a wonderful family, and such great friends standing behind me.
Whether it's the clouds after a rainstorm, the trees in canyons, a loving family, or a bee on a flower, I believe everything deserves attention. By seeing the beauty around me, actually taking the time to stop and look, my whole world is a museum full of priceless art.
When taking photos of people, I prefer to have in-the-moment "candid" shots... that's the best way to capture a moment, capture a personality, capture love. I enjoy on-location photography, as opposed to a studio, specifically because it allows a person to be more comfortable. There's no stuffiness, they can wear whatever they want, and they can act how they do, normally. They can interact with their "scenery," and give me so much more to work with. When a person, a couple, or a family is comfortable, it comes through almost 100 times over. You know the saying, "a picture is worth a thousand words."? Try and translate between the two, studio vs. location... what does each one tell you about the subject? When I see a family in front of a backdrop wearing matching colors, I don't learn anything about the family. I learn that they're all wearing jeans and a black shirt in front of a blue marbled backdrop. On the other hand, when I see a family at a park or at the beach, playing and laughing, I learn this is a family who cares for one another, they are enjoying themselves, and enjoying the company of each other. It's much more pleasant to me, both to view the photo and be in the photo, as well as taking the photo. Not to mention a natural backdrop is so much prettier!
I am an open book and I wear my heart on my sleeve. I have a passion for photography, and I truly LOVE what I do. Please feel free to email me with any questions or comments!
